Afzal Guru: Kashmir under restrictions
11 February, 2014   COLORS OF INDIA NEWS AND MEDIA SERVICES

Srinagar, Feb 9 (RDI IBNS) The Jammu and Kashmir government has imposed curfew-like restrictions in several parts of the Valley on Sunday on the first death anniversary of Muhammad Afzal Guru who was hanged in the Parliament attack case.

Police and paramilitary CRPF men have been deployed across Srinagar city and in all the towns of the Valley. Police and CRPF troopers also
blocked roads leading to the city centre here.

Officials said restrictions were put in places in order to thwart any possible protests and rallies planned by various pro-freedom groups.

Mobile internet services were also suspended late last night ahead of Afzal's death anniversary.

Almost all cellular operators have suspended the internet services across the Valley.

Pro-freedom groups have called for protests and shutdown from Feb 9-11 to mark the one year since the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru
and Muhammad Maqbool Bhat.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman  Muhammad Yasin Malik, was arrested by police here Sunday.

Malik, who had gone into hiding ahead of the  anniversary of Muhammad Afzal Guru's death, was arrested along with several JKLF activists
and lodged into Kothi Bagh police station, police said.

JKLF had planned a protest march towards city centre Lal Chowk here Sunday.
